Struggling through Struggle
Mindset
You may find that you notice a growth mindset in some areas and a fixed mindset in others. This is common. Where do you notice a growth or fixed mindset in yourself? In your child?
Notice a tendency to: embrace challenge, persist in the face of setbacks, see effort as a path to mastery, learn from feedback, and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others. These tendencies result in a higher level of achievement.
Also notice a tendency to: avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as a waste of time, ignore useful critique, and feel threatened by the success of others. These tendencies result in plateaued learning and lower achievement.
Are outcomes in your or your child's life outside of your control or within your control? In other words, are results determined by your hard work and decision making? A higher level of internal control is associated with a higher the level of life achievement.
Notice and align your thoughts, words and actions with the desired mindset.
Choice
Where do you feel great autonomy in your life? What choices have you handed over to your child?
In what ways does your child own his/her education?
Kaizen
Do you win the day? Does your child?
Where do you feel overwhelmed or underwhelmed in your day? Where's the resistance or the boredom? How might you use paper thin progressions to melt resistance away?
