Bold Reflection: Avoiding an explosion

The blog where families find flow and learn to learn.

Thoughts & Reflections

Consider jotting down a few notes, perhaps in a journal or notebook.

Release is the second stage of the flow cycle, where we let go of our worries, distractions, and self-doubt. It is a time of relaxation, letting our minds and bodies rest, and allowing our subconscious to take over. Release is essential because it allows us to recharge, renew our focus, and be more productive when we return to our task.

Why is Release Important?

  1. Restores Energy: Release restores our energy and helps us recover from stress or fatigue. When we take a break and allow our minds and bodies to rest, we can return to our task with renewed focus and energy.
  2. Enhances Creativity: Release enhances our creativity and problem-solving abilities. When we let go of our worries and distractions, our subconscious mind can work on solutions, leading to breakthroughs and innovative ideas.
  3. Improves Performance: Release improves our performance by helping us reduce anxiety and self-doubt. When we are relaxed and focused, we can perform at our best and achieve optimal outcomes.

When we've been working on something too long, our bodies and minds give us signs that a break is in order. What do you feel in your own body? In your mind?

My body starts to ache in particular spots and I get fidgety. I get a tension behind my eyeballs, as well. My mind starts to drift more frequently and I'll begin to notice that I'm hungry or thirsty.

How about for your kids? What do they notice? If they aren't sure, keep an eye on them and voice what you notice. Help them raise their awareness to what their body wants and needs.

Together with your child, discuss what might be great brain breaks. Write them down and put them near where your child works. Sometimes when we're spent, it's hard to then think of an idea of what to do on a break. Remember, that you don't want to be doing something that will be super stimulating to your brain. Keep it chill to allow cognitive resources to replenish. I'd love to hear some of your brain break ideas!
